Dr. Lynn H. Turner is the interim dean of the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication and a professor of communication studies at Marquette University.

 

Dr. Turner teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research areas include interpersonal, gendered, and family communication. She is the co-author or co-editor of over 10 books as well as many articles and book chapters. Her articles have appeared in various journals including: Management Communication Quarterly, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Women and Language, Journal of Family Communication, and Western Journal of Communication. Her books include: From the Margins to the Center: Contemporary Women and Political Communication (co-authored with Patricia Sullivan; Praeger, 1996; recipient of the 1997 Best Book Award from the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender [OSCLG]), Gender in Applied Communication Contexts (co-edited with Patrice Buzzanell and Helen Sterk; Sage, 2004), Introducing Communication Theory, 3rd Ed. (2006) and Perspectives on Family Communication, 3rd Ed. (2006) (both co-authored with Richard West; McGraw-Hill), and The Family Communication Sourcebook (co-edited with Richard West; Sage, 2006). 

 

Dr. Turner was the recipient of the Marquette University College of Communication Outstanding Research Award in 1999 and 2007. She has served in a number of different positions at Marquette: director of graduate studies for the College of Communication, director of the interdisciplinary Family Studies minor, and interim chair of the Department of Communication Studies. She also served as president of Organization for the Study of Culture, Language and Gender; President of Central States Communication Association; chairperson of the Family Communication Division for the National Communication Association (NCA); and she was recently elected second vice president for NCA.
