Steve Frieder,  Assistant to the President Steve Frieder, Arts ’95, is the assistant to the president of Marquette University.

He was elected secretary of the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2003 after serving as assistant secretary from 1998 to 2003. He is part of Father Scott Pilarz's leadership team, working with the president and other senior administrators on a wide variety of issues related to students, alumni and friends. Steve has a long-standing commitment for the continuous improvement of student services and the student experience at Marquette, and serves on a number of university committees. In addition, he works closely with the Board of Trustees as corporate secretary where he has supported the work of six board chairs and 72 trustees.


Steve earned a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in history from Marquette University in 1995 and a master’s degree in history from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., in 1998.

He is a member of the Executive Committee and Marketing and Membership Committee of the Board Professionals Leadership Group of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, a national organization.

An avid runner, Steve has finished ten marathons and is training for his eleventh.
