Originally born in Dublin, Ireland, Murphy received a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1983. He has more than 25 years experience in the marketing and advertising field.

Before joining Marquette in 2008, Dave served as executive creative director and partner at Versant, a marketing and communications firm in Milwaukee.
