Julie Tolan, Vice President, University AdvancementJulie Tolan is vice president for university advancement at Marquette University. Reporting to the senior vice president, she is responsible for alumni relations and fund raising at Marquette, including the recently-completed Magis Campaign—the most successful fund-raising campaign in the university’s history—which raised nearly $357 million from more than 57,000 donors. Julie is the visionary for advancement efforts in helping Marquette to reach its priorities of increased alumni support and engagement.

Tolan earned a “Women of Influence” award in 2006 from The Business Journal in the nonprofit leadership category. She was recognized in particular for her focus on and success in building relationships between donors, alumni and the university.

Having first joined Marquette in 1990, Tolan has served in several capacities, including assistant vice president for university advancement, campaign director, director of corporate and foundation relations, senior advancement officer and project manager for the Les Aspin Center for Government. Tolan became president of the United Performing Arts Fund in Milwaukee, the nation's largest united arts fund, in 1999 and headed three annual campaigns, culminating with the 2002 campaign which raised an unprecedented $10.1 million for its 20 member groups. Tolan returned to Marquette in fall 2002.

She earned a bachelor's degree in English and economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a master of management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she also received the Dean's Distinguished Service Award.
