The Reverend Dr. Oliver Plunkett Rafferty, S.J., invited to hold the Reverend Francis Wade, S.J., Chair at Marquette University in autumn 2013.
The Reverend Dr. Oliver Plunkett Rafferty, S.J., Lecturer in Church History at Heythrop College, the University of London, has been invited to hold the Reverend Francis Wade, S.J., Chair at Marquette University for autumn, 2013. Fr. Rafferty earned his doctorate at Christ Church, Oxford University (UK), and holds a Master’s degree in Theology from the University of London, a Master’s degree in Applied Social Studies from Campion Hall, Oxford, and a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Trinity College, Dublin. He has been visiting professor at Sogang University, Seoul, South Korea, Loyola University, Chicago, John Carroll University, Cleveland, and senior tutor in modern history and tutor in church history at Campion Hall, Oxford University. Fr. Rafferty has published widely and currently has in preparation an edited collection, Irish Catholic Identities, which will be published by Manchester University Press, as well as a commissioned volume for Routledge, Christianity in Ireland.
He is delivering the Reverend Francis Wade, S.J., Public Lecture on Wednesday, November 13, at 5 o’clock p.m. in the Beaumier Suites in Raynor Memorial Library. The title of his lecture is “Ireland, the Catholic Church, and the British Empire 1800-1921.” This lecture is being sponsored by the Marquette Jesuit Community, the Office of the Provost, and the Department of History.
