Reaffirmation of Accreditation

Every ten years Marquette University engages in a process that reaffirms its institutional accreditation. This process provides an opportunity for Marquette to demonstrate the excellent work it does and reflect on areas where improvement may be made.

The accrediting agency for Marquette is the Higher Learning Commission, which will conduct an onsite visit fall 2013 or spring 2014. A steering committee and nine subcommittees are preparing for HLC's visit by leading a self-study process, which will be provided to the review team before their visit. The committee has chosen the theme for the self-study of Reflect - Affirm - Inspire to connect to both the Ignatian tradition of reflection and action and the energy surrounding the new leadership of Marquette University President Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.

Like many of Marquette's colleges and schools accredited by program-specific agencies, the process is meant to ensure the institution is meeting and exceeding specific criteria. The HLC is one of two accrediting agencies for the North Central Association of College and Schools, which Marquette is a member.

With the self-study draft completed, President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., invited all members of the campus community to review the document and provide feedback. The feedback will be considered to ensure the final document accurately reflects and represents the university. Feedback was submitted online Jan. 28 to Feb. 22, or by attending an in-person feedback session.

 

As the steering committee and subcommittees work on the self-study process, President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., has begun the initial steps of a strategic planning process. Father Pilarz shares how the self-study process will help inform and provide a foundation as the university progresses through the planning process.
