Katherine Garnier Kavemeier, Med Tech ’65

Katherine Garnier KavemeierKathy Kavemeier has met virtually every goal she has ever set — as a professional and a volunteer. Her 25-year career in medical technology and her personal achievements prove that.

Kathy was president of the Milwaukee Area Blood Bank Association and lead assessor for the American Association of Blood Banks Accreditation program. She has worked as a certified specialist in blood banking and quality auditor for the American Society for Quality, and as a clinical laboratory instructor she taught Marquette medical technology students. She has co-authored several notable publications and has received Marquette’s Distinguished Alumna in Clinical Laboratory Science award.

While fulfilling her career goals, Kathy raised two children — Todd, Bus Ad ’89, and Karen, Bus Ad ’92 — and embraced volunteer work.

As a leader of three Marquette alumni associations — the Marquette University Medical Laboratory Technology Alumni Association, Association of Marquette University Women and Marquette University Alumni Association National Board — she has made a profound contribution to the university. Most notable, she was chairwoman of AMUW’s fundraising efforts for the Rev. John P. Raynor, S.J., Library.

“My experiences with AMUW developed leadership skills, and leadership has been essential to my growth,” she says.

Kathy’s personal passion took her in another direction in 1996: opening Rosa’s Floral Creations, which designs silk trees, plants and florals. The company has expanded into seven states.

She credits her education for her bold career move.

“Marquette taught me to multitask and solve problems, which is necessary to run a business,” she says.
