do Placido Domingo, Antonio Banderas and Big Bird have in common?
They've all had their costumes designed by Erin Slattery Black.
With a master's of fine arts degree from the University of Texas
to go along with her undergraduate degree from Marquette, Erin
has gone on to great professional success, garnering two Emmy
Awards for her work on Sesame Street.
Erin fondly recalls
her Marquette experience. "I have thought back to my 9:00
a.m. Western Civ lecture many a time while reading an historical
script,” she says. “My semesters of theology and
philosophy have served me well in being able to decode the subtext
and deeper questions posed by many playwrights."
is as generous in sharing her knowledge as she is grateful
for it. She serves as an instructor in technical theatre for
undergraduate drama department at New York University's Tisch
School of the Arts.
"What I like best about theatre
is the collaborative nature of art," says Erin. "I
love to work with people, to brainstorm, to watch a seed of a
good idea sprout into a moment of brilliance."
