Donna Behm Farrell

Donna Behm Farrell believes magic happens when you put a child together with a wonderful book. She chose to focus her 30-year career as an educator on helping children master reading, and recently retired from 18 years as a reading specialist for Waukesha Public Schools.

She combined this professional achievement with a commitment to service and, thankfully, to Marquette that few match. It included leading countless committees, building the Alumni Association’s membership and, Donna’s favorite, mentoring students. “I am constantly impressed with the quality of the students at Marquette today. The depth of their character and their willingness to volunteer and give service is remarkable,” she says.

Students say the same of Donna. She supports the Student Alumni Network and serves on the Association of Marquette University Women Scholarship Committee. She was a member of the National Alumni Association Board (1999-06), and president of both AMUW (1997-98) and the national board (2004-05). She was integral in the development of initiatives to recognize outstanding women, including the Nora Finnigan Werra Faculty Achievement Award and the Director Emeritus Program, which encourages past AMUW directors to continue work on behalf of students and alumnae.

Donna has also chaired countless efforts, including Supper for 12 Strangers and the Boheim Lecture (1997-02). She’s also a member of the Women's Council and the planning committee for Marquette’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

Donna is the personification of AMUW’s mission to inspire lifelong commitment to advancing the achievements of Marquette women. Always on the lookout for new contributions to make, she is now developing an AMUW Book Club as another way to connect alumnae.
