brad k. grunert, grad '81

Brad Grunert

An associate professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery and associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Brad Grunert has focused his practice on helping people recover from traumatic hand or limb injuries and return to work. Additionally, he counsels patients in the bariatric surgery program to help them prepare for post-surgery lifestyle changes.

Brad continues also as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Education, where he teaches psychopathology and counseling techniques in the Counseling Psychology Program. For more than 15 years, he has supervised practica placement for doctoral- and master’s-level Marquette students, and sat on their dissertation committees.

After earning his doctor of philosophy degree in counseling and educational psychology at Marquette in 1981, Brad completed a post-doctoral fellowship in rehabilitative psychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals. He joined the Medical College faculty in 1987 and says the training he received at Marquette prepared him for this challenging work.

“I have found that all of the courses that I took assisted me in developing a firm grounding in the field of psychology,” he says. “Based upon this, I have been able to pursue a variety of interventions, research methodologies and teaching techniques that have greatly benefited my career. I truly believe that my Ph.D. program at Marquette formed the cornerstone for my success.”
