Dirt is Tom Judge’s enemy.
Tom, president of Judge’s Healthcare Linen Services, has been innovating the cleaning business for more than three decades. After taking over his family’s company, Judge’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids, Tom spotted potential in commercial accounts. He spun off a highly successful new division, Judge’s Uniform and Textile Services.
As the business grew, Tom developed computerized garment tracking systems and industrial uniform cleaning technologies that revolutionized the cleaning industry. He later became president of the Central Wisconsin Hangers Franchise and became known as an expert in environmentally-friendly CO2 cleaning technology.
His awards include Entrepreneur of the Year by the Portage County Business Council, Friend of the Environment by the Wisconsin Environmental Working Group and the Most Valuable Pollution Prevention award from the national Pollution Prevention Roundtable for his sustainable CO2 cleaning. Tom has always supported his community, providing employment for the handicapped and helping to collect winter coats for families in need as part of the Coats for Kids program.
In 2004, Tom decided to sell his retail business and focus on the health care market. Today, Judge’s Healthcare Linen Services processes over 6 million pounds of linens and surgical textiles for hospitals and clinics throughout Wisconsin.
Tom has never forgotten his experience at Marquette. He remembers a professor who taught problem-solving and critical thinking. “He had us ‘think outside the box’ to turn companies around,” Tom says. “I don’t think I ever got back in the box.”
