Albert J. Provenzano, Eng ’70

Albert ProvenzanoThe best defense, they say, is a good offense. For Al Provenzano, it’s the other way around. As a struggling entrepreneur, his best offense was a good defense. More specifically, the U.S. Department of Defense, which came through with the contract that helped make his career.

In 1987, Al founded Pro Technical Products, a mechanical components supplier to the aerospace and defense industries. Housed in a former factory in Rockford, Ill., Pro Tech was a one-room operation — literally. A year later came the Department of Defense contract, which allowed Provenzano to double a staff that at the time totaled one person, himself. The new employee? His wife, Terry.

Within a few more years, though, Pro Tech had expanded to 10 employees and broadened its product line to include aftermarket parts for the agricultural and construction industries. Then came the really big break. In 1998, the company became the sole supplier of maintenance, repair and operations materials for military bases in the north central United States. Al changed the company’s name to SupplyCore to reflect its new market emphasis.

Today, SupplyCore is an international leader in logistics solutions, serving the DOD from locations in Okinawa, Japan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and six U.S. offices and warehouses.

“It is a lean, fast company,” Al says, “capable of delivering the broadest range of products and services to the DOD and in support of disaster relief.”
