Jeffrey Snell

How would you define “philanthropy”? Dr. Jeffrey Snell calls it a love of humanity. He was lucky enough to witness firsthand the love that many have for the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, where Jeff served for eight years, three as president and CEO. During his tenure, Jeff helped build the organization into the largest of the nation’s 3,500 Boys & Girls Clubs and completed the largest endowment campaign for a social service agency in Wisconsin, reaching 25,000 members and raising nearly $100 million.

More recently, as chief operating officer for the Argosy Foundation, a private family foundation projected to be among the largest in the world, Jeff works from the other side of philanthropy. “At its best, philanthropy reminds us that wealth – whether it’s time, talent or treasure – is not an end in itself but a powerful vehicle for benefiting others. What a privilege to be involved wherever, whenever and on whatever scale,” he says.

In addition to the doctoral degree he earned at Marquette, Jeff holds a master of social ethics from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He attended four institutions of higher education and calls Marquette “the best of the bunch,” with the faculty representing the classic Jesuit model. “Whatever success I’ve enjoyed or accomplishments that might be attributed to me,” he says, “I credit in large part to the very positive, formative learning experience I had at Marquette. I am indebted for life.”
