Therese
Vega Stromberg, Grad '85
Since
graduating from Marquette’s master’s program in nursing,
Therese Vega Stromberg has worked as an oncology clinical nurse
specialist for Covenant Healthcare’s Center for Cancer
Care.
Inspired by faculty mentors during her graduate
studies, Teri looks beyond her own expertise to see health
and illness from the patient’s perspective.
Throughout
her nursing career, Teri has been a leader in promoting the
specialty of cancer nursing across Milwaukee and Wisconsin. She
says she is “continually driven to ensure the quality of life of
patients and families with cancer and those near the end of life.”
In
addition to her current position, Teri serves in an advance
practice role for the palliative care consultation service at
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She is currently expanding
her knowledge and skills into the field of palliative care for
many chronic illnesses.
She has recently served as a preceptor for
Marquette graduate nursing students, believing that sharing
expertise, as well as mentoring and coaching future nurses, is
the responsibility of every advance practice nurse.
Teri has contributed
her time, energy and expertise to many professional and community
projects and publications related to the care of patients and
families with cancer.
She has also shared her passion
and skills as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society
for more than 25 years. She currently serves on its national
assembly, Midwest division board of directors and Wisconsin state
advisory group.
