James H. Wheeler, Jr., and Virginia M. Wheeler

James and Virginia WheelerJim and Ginny Wheeler have been active supporters of Marquette for close to 30 years, and their devotion to the university — demonstrated through contributions of time, effort and resources — has had an enormous impact.

In 1989, they helped lay the groundwork for the Blue & Gold Fund to support scholarships and have been faithful leaders, participants and guardians of its growth. They also have been generous benefactors of the Al McGuire Center and established the Rev. Albert J. DiUlio Athletic Scholarship Fund for varsity sports at Marquette.

The Wheelers have a lasting legacy at the Al McGuire Center with the Jim and Ginny Wheeler Walk of Champions on the arena’s concourse. In loving memory of James H. Wheeler, III, M.D., the Walk of Champions is a celebration of Marquette men and women whose athletic achievements are synonymous with success and bring great pride to the Marquette community.

In 2008, the Wheelers established the James and Virginia Wheeler Endowed Basketball Scholarships, which will be funded through their estate plans. Men’s and women’s basketball will be beneficiaries.

Jim attended the College of Engineering with a partial track scholarship for one year before his appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

After returning to civilian life, Jim and Ginny founded Essential Industries Inc. in 1963. Jim is chairman of the board, and Ginny is the company’s secretary.

At Marquette, Jim is a member of the Triangle Fraternity and was a member of the Minutemen, and Ginny belongs to the Women’s Council of Marquette. Jim and Ginny participated in the Parents Association and are members of the Marquette University 1881 Society.

Jim and Ginny reside in Milwaukee and have four children: Dr. James Wheeler, Arts ’73 (deceased); Dr. Michael Wheeler; Dana Wheeler Terracina, Nurs ’77; and Katie Wheeler Mehan.
