A Message from the Dean
Dr. Janet Wessel Krejci

Words cannot express how excited I am to be back at Marquette. For those of you who don’t know, my career at Marquette began in 1988. I held various roles in the College of Nursing for 21 years, which included everything from research assistant to associate dean. It has been an absolute pleasure reconnecting with former colleagues, meeting new ones and getting acquainted with our current student body.

I’d like to take a moment to thank Dr. Donna McCarthy, Dr. Kerry Kosmoski-Goepfert and Larry Vanden Busch for graciously leading the college during the most recent transition period. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to our faculty and staff in the college who have taken on additional roles and responsibilities. I am continually amazed by their commitment to serving our students and Marquette University.

It’s been exciting to see and learn all of the positive changes Marquette has undergone in the time I was away. It’s also been wonderful to learn what we’ve accomplished as a college. From new programs and partnerships, to the ways in which our college supports the community, I want to keep this momentum going.

As our college continues to grow, the emphasis on innovation and thinking differently is at the forefront of all we do. I look forward to working with university leadership to discover ways in which the college can expand our academic programs while enhancing our national reputation in research, teaching and professional practice.

I have a deep passion for the power of nursing to Be The Difference every day in the lives of vulnerable humans seeking care. I am deeply honored to serve as the dean of this incredible college where we prepare outstanding students to become Marquette nurses that make a difference in their communities.  I look forward to meeting many of you in the future. If our paths cross, please introduce yourself and share your Marquette story.

Thinking about advancing your nursing education? Come home to Marquette

Health care systems and providers are adapting to policy reform and an aging population, and new care delivery models increasingly require more and better primary care. The research is clear‒ advanced practice nurses provide stellar care with great outcomes. The College of Nursing offers several advanced practice programs, including nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse-midwifery and post-master's certificate programs in multiple specialty areas. Our newest program, which we hope to begin in fall 2017, pending accreditation by the COA, is the DNP-nurse anesthesia program.

From the state's first Doctor of Nursing Practice program to the research-based Ph.D., which is offered in person or by synchronous distance learning, to the college's primarily online D.N.P. for nurse leaders, the College of Nursing has the program you need to take your skills to the next level.

Alumni Engagement Committee

One of the greatest gifts to the College of Nursing is its dedicated alumni. Stay tuned for details on the relaunch of this group.

Alumni invited to Commitment to the Profession Ceremony

The College of Nursing will host its annual Commitment to the Profession Ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 1:30 p.m.; alumni are encouraged to attend. Sophomore undergraduate nursing students and direct entry master’s students will have their hands blessed as they commit themselves to the nursing profession. The purpose of the ceremony is to celebrate what it means to be a professional nurse at Marquette University, while taking into consideration “capping” ceremonies of the past. The ceremony takes place each year during Family Weekend at the Church of the Gesu on Marquette’s campus.
