In the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, students are paired with an academic adviser in one of two ways:
Q: Do I have to have an adviser?
Yes. Marquette requires you to have an adviser sign off on your schedule before allowing your registration to be processed. We want to ensure you are getting all of the courses you need and progressing toward graduation.
Q: How often should I see my adviser?
As often as you want! But we request that you meet with your adviser at least three times each semester.
Q: Where do I go to meet with my adviser?
The Advising Center is located in Sensenbrenner Hall, Suite 005. To make an appointment, call (414) 288-5989.
Q: Will my adviser help me choose a major?
Yes, with your input. We can start by talking about what courses you enjoy or your long-term goals. Often, we can tell if you are developing an interest in one field or another even before you do. We also have brochures and information sheets in our reception area about all of our majors and minors. Just take any that interest you.
Q: Will my adviser help me choose my classes?
Sure. Or, if you prefer, bring in your selections and an adviser will look them over. Don't ask us to suggest easy professors or classes with the least homework. Part of the college experience is to be challenged!
Q: What are the hours of the Advising Center?
The Advising Center is open year round from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We close during university holidays.
Q: Will I get a reminder about meeting with my adviser?
Yes, we send postcards to remind you to schedule an appointment with your adviser before online registration each term.
Q: Can I drop in, call or email with questions throughout the semester?
Of course! If the questions will take some time, you'll want to make an appointment to ensure you have enough time to cover everything.
Q: Will the Advising Center know me by name?
Our staff makes it a priority to know you and even suggest some extracurricular activities or work opportunities that may enhance your experience at Marquette.
