The description in this posting is very broad and general, as it is meant as a site to group Marquette students interested in career opportunities at Abbott.  Career openings in the Diagnostic Division occur fairly infrequently, but this spring and summer there will be several openings for entry level laboratory technicians.  Some positions that will open are for entry level scientists located in Lake County IL.  Their duties will involve execution of verification protocols for clinical chemistry and immunoassays on automated platforms.  Skills needed would be general laboratory techniques, adherence to laboratory procedures and accurate documentation of experimental procedures.  Flexibility in work hours, including working second shift, is a must.

Medical Scribe

PhysAssist

Working as a PhysAssist Scribe is an invaluable, unique opportunity for pre health professionals, recent graduates, and students looking to gain MEDICAL experience! It's a great opportunity to: Work side by side physicians or PA's in the emergency room, transcribe and understand the patient history, physical exam, medical decision making, and diagnosis for each patient the physician sees, and become proficient in documenting lab results and x-rays.

 

Zoo Internship

Milwaukee County Zoo

Paid internship positions are available with the Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s Karen Peck Katz Conservation Education Center at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Their education programs are designed to help children develop environmental and scientific knowledge through fun, hands-on learning. Work with youth ages 2-14 in their 2014 Summer Camps assisting instructors in the classroom and leading Zoo tours. Interns also supervise high school volunteers and assist with material preparation. Interns are mentored by education staff and required to focus on professional skill development through self-reflection and experiential learning.

 

Summer Research Experience in Microbiology

Department of Microbiology, The University of Iowa

The University of Iowa Department of Microbiology invites qualified undergraduate students in microbiology and other biological sciences to apply to their Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates in Microbiology. Participants will conduct 10 weeks of microbiology research on a project they select under the supervision of a faculty member.

 

Urban Ecology Center

NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) sites in Biological Sciences

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program.

Laboratory Assistant

Marquette students may be hired for laboratory work in faculty research laboratories on a part time basis, with duties ranging from general tasks such as washing glassware to carrying out their own independent research projects. These positions can be paid hourly or independent research projects can receive academic credit BIOL 4956.
