Dr. Vaughn received her Ph. D. from the University of Michigan in 1977. She was an MRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 1977 to 1979 at the University of Calgary. Dr. Vaughn joined the faculty at Marquette University as an Assistant Professor in 1979, promoted to Associate Professor in 1986, and Professor in 2000.

Research in the Vaughn Lab
We investigate the endogenous cannabinoid (marijuana-like) system. The brain makes its own endogenous cannabinoids which interact with cannabinoid receptors to cause effects on a number of physiological systems including anxiety and mood, control of food intake, learning and memory, reward and addiction, stress, analgesia and temperature regulation. We are particularly interested in three aspects of cannabinoid physiology: the role of endocannabinoids in stress-induced relapse to cocaine seeking behavior, the role of endocannabinoids in anxiety, and the role of endocannabinoids in analgesia. .
