Philip Crawford received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Marquette University in 1991 under the direction of Dr. Michael Ryan. After graduation, he joined the research group of Dr. Franklin Schultz at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis as a postdoctoral researcher, where he carried out research dealing with heterogeneous electron transfer and Marcus theory.

In 1992, Dr. Crawford joined the faculty in the Chemistry Department at Southeast Missouri State University as an assistant professor, where he teaches courses in general and analytical chemistry. He was promoted in 1998 to associate professor, and has been serving as the departmental chairperson since 2002.

Dr. Crawford is married and has two children. He has become active in the Boy Scouts, and has served as a coach for his children's soccer, baseball, and basketball teams.
