What Graduates are Saying

"Although the classes in the Biomedical Sciences department are tough, I received such an excellent education and the information that I have learned, I still remember today. The professors are top notch and excellent teachers. I miss Marquette!"

-Jennifer Grams, '05

First year Radiation Therapist Program, University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse

"The professors in the Biomedical Sciences department make themselves exceptionally available for answering students' questions and assisting in research projects. Choosing the Biomedical Sciences major was the best decision I could have made in moving toward my goal--becoming an extremely knowledgable physician that people can really put their trust in."
-Steve Sumner, '04
First year medical student, Medical College of Wisconsin

"Choosing a Biomedical Sciences major was easily the best decision I made at Marquette. The faculty is outstanding and made a tremendous impact on me not only in the classroom, but with career advising as well. Now that I am in medical school, I feel that my education through the College of Health Sciences has given me a strong background for my current courses, and has strongly contributed to the kind of physician I will one day be."
-Gwyneth Zack, '03
Second year medical student, Rush School of Medicine

"The Biomedical Sciences program has prepared me in so many ways for continuing my education as I begin medical school at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. The curriculum introduced me to many of the classes I will take during medical school and offered a comprehensive understanding of how the body works as an integrated system. My new classmates can't believe that I've already participated in a gross anatomy dissection course, among other highly relevant courses. The faculty in the Biomedical Sciences program is among the best. They provide guidance during all four years of college and beyond, they expose you to an amazing collection of knowledge, and they work extremely hard to get to know you not only as a student, but as a person. I recommend that anyone interested in entering the incredible field of healthcare strongly consider preparing for a lifetime of professionalism in the Biomedical Sciences program at Marquette."
-Sarah Laabs, '03
First year medical student, Northwestern University School of Medicine

"The Biomedical Sciences major prepared me so well to begin the professional phase of the Physical Therapy program. Even though I had to study intensely, I found out how much I actually enjoyed the courses, and it really affirmed that I was going in the right direction with my college education. I had so many great opportunities as a student, including studying abroad, which can be difficult to arrange as a science major. In addition, I was fortunate to take the undergraduate anatomy dissection course that most universities would never offer- it was one of the best learning experiences I have ever had. The professors were very personable and approachable, and took the time to get to know you individually. I am grateful to have made the decision in taking this major."
-Molly Kramper, '00
Graduate Program in Physical Therapy, Marquette University

"One of the best decisions I made while at Marquette was to major in Biomedical Sciences. The depth of the courses in the department prepared me well for the intense curriculum of medical school. The wide range of classes offered were not only interesting, but the instruction and support of the professors was exceptional. I truly felt that I was being taught, not merely lectured."
-Megan Berman '99
First Year Medical Student, Loyola Stritch School of Medicine

"The Biomedical Sciences Degree is an excellent springboard for professional level classes of all types. Believe me when I tell you that my bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences has more than prepared me for my graduate education. Each day of class I learn information that builds onto knowledge base I gained at Marquette in the biomedical sciences program."
-Anthony Fields '99
Second Year Pharmacy Student, University of Wisconsin

"The Biomedical Sciences major at Marquette provided me with excellent preparation for the rigors of medical school. Not a day goes by where I don't think about the increased difficulty I would be encountering had I not chosen the undergraduate major that I did. When I inform my fellow students of the instruction I received in the Biomedical Sciences major, they often indicate that they wish something like it had been available to them at their universities."
-John Laur, '99
Second Year Medical Student, Medical College of Wisconsin

Marquette's Biomedical Sciences major has not only prepared me to do well in dental school, but helped me to excel well beyond my expectations. The strong Biomedical Sciences background made my first year of dental school seem mostly a review. Academically I am doing very well (ranked #1 in my class) and received the highest score in the history of my school on Part 1 of the National Dental Board Examination. The preparation from the major has also meant that I have had some extra time outside of class to do research and other activities. Consequently, my school awarded me a three-year full scholarship (tuition plus stipend) for my work on "Fractal Analysis of Dental Ceramic Fracture Surfaces."
-Mike Thompson '99
Second Year Dental Student, University of Illinois-Chicago

"The faculty and staff members of the Department of Biomedical Sciences genuinely care about their students, and are second to none. They go out of their way to help students excel and to achieve their goals. I attribute most of my success to the support and dedication of the members of the Biomedical Sciences Department, and highly recommend this major."
-Peter Wagner '99
Second Year Dental Student, Marquette University School of Dentistry

"The Biomedical Sciences major gives a student a great blend of the natural and human sciences. The major prepares one for the rigors of graduate or medical school, as well as providing great career opportunities. I believe Biomedical Sciences is the premier health sciences major at Marquette University."
-Timothy Welsch '99
Second Year Graduate Student, Physician Assistant Studies Program, Marquette University

"One of the best decisions I have made was majoring in Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University. The faculty members were great in helping me select the right classes that I needed for optometry school. The coursework was comprehensive and challenging, and prepared me well to be successful in professional school- I was accepted at one of the nation's top schools of optometry, and am looking forward to an exciting future."
-Doug Bosner, '98
Third Year Optometry Student, The Ohio State University

"I loved the Biomedical Sciences program and department. I truly felt like a valued person because the faculty took the time to get to know me and understand my interests, and helped me get where I am now. The curriculum is authentic and real. It has added a different perspective to my graduate education. I feel like I'm at an advantage because so much of public health is not only based in basic science and clinical research, but also human oriented and 'hands on', and the Biomedical Sciences program provided me with both aspects. It is a very well-balanced and intense program. I'm very proud of my degree."
-Amy Estlund '98
Second Year Student, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University

"The Biomedical Sciences major fully prepared me for my current studies in the PharmD program at the University of Minnesota. Because the profession of pharmacy has been evolving to become more clinical-oriented, it has been particularly helpful for me to have this background. Also, the Biomedical Sciences professors work closely with students to prepare them for many different career paths, making this program versatile as well as excellent."
-Jessica M. Lawton '98
Third Year Pharmacy Student, University of Minnesota

"Knowing dentistry was in my future, biomedical sciences was an obvious undergraduate major for me. The amazing thing about the major is that the majority of courses apply specifically to human sciences- anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pathology- things that you really want to learn. The depth of this information has helped me immensely throughout dental school, and will continue to help me throughout the future."
-Mariah Baus, '97
Fourth Year Dental Student, Marquette University School of Dentistry
