Addiction Research & Education Division

The addiction researcher team in the Department of Biomedical Sciences consists of internationally recognized neuroscientists who receive funding from a number of federal and private sources, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute on Mental Health, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute on Aging, and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression. The collaborative research group consists of a multidisciplinary team of investigators with diverse expertise in fields such as neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, neurophysiology, and molecular biology. The varied strengths of the research team and their collaborators permit a synergistic, multifaceted approach that creates exciting opportunities for the team to understand addiction at numerous levels ranging from pathology occurring at molecular, cellular levels to assessing the clinical effectiveness of novel treatments. The unique, collaborative research environment within the Department of Biomedical Sciences provides an ideal setting for the discovery and advancement of innovative approaches for the treatment of addiction.

Member scientists are committed to serving the Milwaukee community through various outreach activities that primarily target area schools in an effort to raise awareness regarding drug addiction. Activities range from age-appropriate, interactive presentations to hands-on activities and can be conducted either at Marquette or at the sponsoring school. If you would like additional information please contact Dr. David A. Baker.
