Marquette honors professor Laatsch-Lybeck for teaching excellence
Linda Laatsch-Lybeck, Ph.D., associate professor of clinical laboratory science at Marquette University, is one of three recipients of the university’s 2007 Teaching Excellence Awards.
Award nominations are made by faculty and students and chosen by eight reviewers. Each winner receives a $5,000 stipend.
Through the medical microbiology, medical bacteriology, public health and other courses she teaches, she emphasizes to her students the importance of excellence not only in clinical laboratory science, but as well-rounded individuals, as well. Marquette’s core curriculum, ethics and spiritual well-being, provide that foundation, she believes, especially for aspiring healthcare professionals.
“I really love the students and sending them off into the world well-prepared,” said Laatsch-Lybeck. “We have very high expectations for them. They’re great to work with and so motivated. To win an award for something that I really love and hope I’m doing well is just overwhelming. I care very deeply about each individual student.”
Laatsch received her bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s degree in health care education from Central Michigan University. She earned her Ph.D. in education at Marquette in 2000.
