Clinical Prediction Rules

Understand the steps needed in the development of clinical prediction rules.

Understand the “positives” and “negatives” of clinical prediction rules in physical therapy practice.

Review selected prediction rules for the evaluation and treatment of the lumbar spine (manipulation, stabilization), cervical spine (radiculopathy, manipulation), and knee (patellofemoral joint).

is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Marquette University. She served on the WPTA Ethics Committee from 2000 - 2006 and has been re-elected for a third term 2008-2011. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the UW – Madison in 1988, a Masters of Arts in Bioethics from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1999, and her DSc – Neurology degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2008. Her clinical background has been in neurologic rehabilitation, specializing in traumatic brain injury, and she continues to practice clinically at Froedert Hospital on the Neurologic Rehab unit. Tina has presented to a variety of audiences at both the college and professional level on ethics topics including rehabilitation ethics, “genethics”, disability as culture, impaired capacity, and social justice.
has over 7 years of experience as a consultant withSteffes & Associates. Ms. Winiecki holds Masters degrees in Business Administration and Physical Therapy from Marquette University. She providespractices with onsite marketing training, program development, recommendations for selection and implementation of practice management software, strategies for maximizing reimbursement, public relations event planning, and financial management strategies. Ms. Winiecki has experience managing privatepractices, and is a adjunct faculty member at Marquette University in the DoctoralPhysical Therapy Program and Masters of Business Administration Program. Sheis a member of the American Physical Therapy Association andworksas the Reimbursement Specialist for the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association.

He is currently a Professor at Marquette University, teaching orthopaedics in the Department of Physical Therapy. He is also the current editor-in-chief of the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy. Dr. Simoneau has been the recipient of several teaching and research awards including the 2004 Chattanooga Research Award presented by the APTA, the 2003 Dorothy E. Baethke – Eleanor Carlin Award for excellence in academic teaching presented by the APTA, the 2001 Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence presented by Marquette University and the 2000 Award for Excellence in Teaching of the Orthopaedic Physical Therapy section of the APTA. Dr. Simoneau is the author of a number of research articles and book chapters related to orthopaedic physical therapy and biomechanics.
