Professor EmeritasLuther C. Kloth holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Dana College, Blair, NE, a Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania and a MS degree in Anatomy from Marquette University. In 1988 he was named Alumnus of the Year by his alma mater, Dana College. He began teaching in 1967 as an instructor in the physical therapy program of Marquette University School of Medicine. In 1971 he was promoted to assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy of the Medical College of Wisconsin and in 1982 he was promoted to associate professor in physical therapy at Marquette University. He was promoted to full professor of physical therapy at Marquette in 1994. During Professor Kloth’s 35 years in the physical therapy program at Marquette he has taught Electrophysiological Testing, Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Therapeutic Exercise, Physical Agents and Wound Healing. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor and a Certified Wound Specialist in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Professor Kloth’s research has dealt with studying the effects of electrical stimulation on chronic wound healing. Since 1991 he has testified before CMS four times with APTA in its quest to gain a national coverage policy for reimbursement of wound treatment with electrical stimulation Most recently he has conducted a multi-center randomized trial to investigate the effects of normothermia on pressure ulcer healing. In addition to publishing results of his recent and past research he has been co-editor and author of three editions of the textbook entitled, Wound Healing Alternatives in Management published by F.A. Davis Co., Philadelphia. He provides clinical consultation and continuing education courses to clinicians across the U.S. in the area of chronic wound management.

Professor Kloth is an active member of a number of professional associations and societies and has served on the Board of Directors of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care and the American Academy of Wound Management. He is a Certified Wound Specialist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Wound Management.

Professor Kloth has been a member of the APTA since 1962. He is the recipient of three awards bestowed on him by the Section on Clinical Electrophysiology (SCE ) of the APTA. He served the section continuously for 17 years as secretary/program chair (6 years), vice president/CE chair (4 years) president (4 years) and as immediate past president for 3 years. In 1993 he received the section’s Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in leadership and service roles within the section. In 1994 he was awarded the SCE Award of Excellence, which recognizes individuals who have made exemplary contributions toward the advancement of the science and practice of Electrophysiological Physical Therapy in scholarly endeavors, which have promoted the academic, research and clinical aspects of the physical therapy profession. In 1997 he received the SCE Professional Merit Award for exemplary contributions toward the promotion of the Section on Clinical Electrophysiology. Also in 1997 he was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association for Outstanding leadership, service and dedication to the profession of physical therapy. Since 2000 Kloth has been awarded three prestigious awards for the APTA. In 2000 he received the Lucy Blair Service Award; in 2001 he was the recipient of the Catherine Worthington Fellows award and in 2002 the APTA Section on Health Policy presented him with the R. Charles Harker, Esq. Award for distinguished leadership in Physical Therapy Health Policy
