Dr. April Harkins is a 1998 graduate from the CLS program at Marquette University and received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology in 2005 from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Harkins teaches a laboratory techniques class in Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical Immunoserology and lectures in Mycology. Dr. Harkins’ research interests are in the field of mycology. She studies the pathogenic or disease-causing yeast and how they are able to form biofilms on medical devices with a focus on potential and novel anti-fungal targets. Dr. Harkins has held many positions at the local, state and national level of the CLS professional society, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
