Description: IMAP-DR works in collaboration with The Caribbean Social Immersion Program sponsored by the Social Ministries Office of the Jesuits in the Dominican Republic and co-sponsored by Centro Bono, Solidaridad Fronteriza, CEFASA, and Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes (SJM) all Jesuit-run social centers. To learn more about these programs, click here. This program looks at the history of the Dominican Republic and its relationship with Haiti and the human struggle of social injustice between the two. Seeing Haiti through the eyes of the Dominican Republic while also discussion our own border/immigrant issue with Mexico and Central America, brings a unique reflection on immigration and human rights to this IMAP program.

As an initiative of the Social Ministries of the Jesuit Antilleans Province, this Social Immersion Program is an intensive encounter with the realities of the Dominican Republic and it’s relationship to Haiti. The “in country” experience in the DR is a guided by social studies professionals who help the group have a deep and comprehensive understanding of the social realities from a human, economic, social, cultural and historical perspective. At the core of the program, participants are exposed to the work of the Jesuits as they work both sides of the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Conduct Policy: Due to the distance and possible challenges found anytime Marquette students venture off campus, Campus Ministry asks that all participants verify that they are not currently nor will be when the trip occurs, on disciplinary probation with the University. Two conduct checks will occur on any students wishing to participate, one before final decisions are made for the trip and the second before leaving.
