Women's Schola

The Marquette University Women’s Schola is a small choral ensemble through the Office of Campus Ministry and the Department of Performing Arts.  Like the larger Liturgical Choir, this choir seeks to strengthen the sung participation of the assembly and provide beauty in the liturgy by offering choral music that reflects a wide range of styles in the Church’s tradition.  The ensemble provides music for Sunday Liturgies at the Church of the Gesu and the Chapel of the Holy Family as well as other Catholic Churches in the Milwaukee area. This ensemble joins the Liturgical Choir and Marquette University Chorus for their two annual performances of Lessons and Carols and the Spring Concert. Because of Marquette’s Catholic, Jesuit identity, this choir embodies and exemplifies the four components of the university’s mission: that of faith, leadership, excellence, and service. Membership is by audition and is open to undergraduate and graduate students of any faith tradition.

Enrolling in the Womenís Schola

There are two options for enrolling in the Womenís Schola. The first is a 1 credit option. In this option students will receive a letter grade and the course will count towards their GPA. The second option is a zero-credit option. This means that your participation in the group will be listed on your academic transcript, and you will be given an S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) grade. The zero-credit option is particularly for students who need to avoid overload charges or do not wish to have the class grade counted in their GPA. The syllabus, schedule, and concert dates for each section are identical. It is therefore to the studentís advantage, if possible, to take the ensemble for credit.

Rehearsals are held each week on Wednesday evenings from 7:15-8:15 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family. Rehearsals are mandatory for participation in the group. For more information, email the director Tom Koester or call (414) 288-3695.
