WHAT TO DO when you arrive at MATC (Graduates):
Check-in :
Enter MATC through the doors on State Street (located west of 6th Street). Immediately report to the check-in tables located on the second floor in the west hallway (behind Cooley Auditorium). Find the table for your major and the announcement card with your name on it. KEEP THIS CARD WITH YOU and be sure to have it in your hand when you walk to the stage. Do not leave it on your seat. You’ll give the card to the announcer who’ll use it to read your name as you cross the stage to receive your diploma….well, it’s really just your diploma cover. More about that appears in the “Diplomas” section.
MATC Floor Plan for Graduates
Restrooms:
Restrooms on the 2nd floor of MATC are located on the north (or far) end of the floor, a long walk from the check-in tables. The men’s restroom is located all the way at the end of the west hallway (behind the auditorium). The women’s restroom is located all the way at the end of the east hallway (main hallway in front of the auditorium). Remember, there won’t be much time!
Line Up:
Find the gathering place for your major in either the south or center hallways. Look for the list of names for your major. Lists are posted on the wall. The list shows the line up order. A column leader for each major will be at the head of the line followed by the graduates lined up in alphabetical order—ready for the processional at noon.
Diplomas:
After your name is called and you cross the stage, you’ll be directed to the hallway behind the stage (west hallway) where you’ll sign a receipt card in exchange for your actual diploma…something to put inside that diploma cover you just received on stage. Then, you’ll return to the auditorium with your group for the remainder of the ceremony by continuing down the south hallway, walking through the main entry doors and returning to a seat in your section. You do not have to return to exactly the same seat –any seat in your section will do.
Photographs:
A professional photographer will take a picture of you as you receive your diploma on stage. A second photographer will be stationed in the south hall and will take a picture of you after you’ve picked up your actual diploma and are on your way back to the auditorium. Proofs will be mailed directly to your home address. An order form will be included in the mailing, however, you are under no obligation to purchase. This year our contract is with Empire Photography, (608) 257-2969, www.empirephotos.com.
Caps & Gowns:
Graduates receiving B.A. degrees keep all academic apparel.
Graduates receiving M.A. degrees return all academic apparel (except tassel) to boxes in the hallway behind the stage immediately following the end of the graduation ceremony.
