How do I know if I am eligible for an internship?
Internship prerequisites (courses, gpa, and class standing) are established by individual departments. This information is located on the internship application, in the Undergraduate Bulletin, in the Timetable of Classes, and on the reverse side of this page.
Where do I find information regarding internships?
Postings for internships are located on several bulletin boards throughout Johnston Hall and on this Web page. - complete the application (all applications are located in Johnston Hall, room 400),
- have your intended on-the-job supervisor submit a letter on company stationary detailing the intern duties and projects, work schedule and total hours to be worked, and consent to complete an evaluation of the intern’s performance,
- complete the Internship Goals form.
Do I receive academic credit for an internship?
The internship is a university course. It can be completed during any semester. After a student receives written approval for the internship, he or she can register for the course. Internships are listed by department as ADPR 193, BREC 193, COMM 193, CMST 193, JOUR 193, or THAR 193.
Students may receive a maximum of three credits for internship work. Internship credit is counted as part of the maximum hours allowed per major.
Credit for internship is granted for 1, 2, or 3 credits depending on the number of established hours per week for your internship. Hours are determined by departments and located on the internship application.
Any student who already has three credits, but desires another professional learning experience, may be approved for a zero credit internship experience. This ensures that that the internship appears on the transcript. Communication Studies majors are allowed six credits of internship experience.
