Stephen studies the use of computer technology and its application in theatre, as a design tool, as a medium to project and create scenic elements in productions and as a mode for presentation on the web. He worked as a computer modeler and general factotum on the i.e. VR productions of "Tesla" and "Wings" at the University of Kansas.
Stephen has continued to explore the use of computers in the design and implementation of theatrical productions, including the computer generated and animated scenery for Marquette's production of "The Fir Tree," the Virtual Reality production of "The Magic Flute" at the University of Kansas in April of 2003, and the computer generated scenery for Marquette's productions of "The Memorandum" (2004), "Everyman" (2005), "Sunday in the Park with George" (2010) and the award winning student design collaborative project "Holy Days" (2011). Stephen is proud of these opportunities and that he is able to develop these projects with a talented group of undergraduate students.
Stephen has designed sets, lights, and costumes and directed productions at the middle school, high school, and university level. Stephen has also studied the use of computer technology and its application in theatre, as a design tool, as a medium to project and create scenic elements in productions and as a mode for presentation on the web. He worked as a computer modeler and general factotum on the i.e. VR productions of "Tesla" and "Wings" at the University of Kansas. Since leaving KU, Stephen has continued to explore the use of computers in the design and implementation of theatrical productions. Stephen has also taught at Earlham College in Richmond Indiana and Augusta State University in Augusta Georgia.
Stephen is involved in the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, the only professional organization in the U.S. for theatre designers and technicians. He is also active in the KCACTF Region III, having served as the festival co-host in 2001, and as the regional webmaster. In 1998, Stephen was chosen as a Barbizon design award nominee for the KCACTF Region V festival, where his designs for Bus Stop were displayed.
Stephen has designed professionally and served as a guest designer at other institutes of higher learning including Theatre X, Coastal Carolina University, Carroll College, Sunset Playhouse, Greenhouse Theater Center, Hofstra University, Earlham College, University of Kansas, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Forward Theatre, First Stage Young Company and American Folklore Theatre.

Marquette offers a strong theatre training program housed within the liberal arts university setting. This leads to well trained actors, designers, directors, technicians who have a greater understanding of the art form and an awareness of the surrounding society. Students get to hone their craft while exploring the art form through classroom work and a strong practical realized production season. Most importantly, perhaps, is the general quality of the Marquette theatre students - their general caring for others and expectation of quality - makes it very easy to work together to strive for the best.
