What to Expect

What students and alumni can expect when they call
Career Services staff will help students schedule an appointment with a career counselor or refer them to walk-in hours or other resources as appropriate. Students will be asked to provide basic information such as name, major, year in school, phone number, and reason for the visit (i.e. career exploration, resume critique, job search assistance, etc.).

Students and alumni can also schedule their appointment in person in the Career Services Center at 1324 W. Wisconsin, on the first floor of Holthusen Hall. Appointments usually last between 45 and 60 minutes. We do not make same day appointments, but walk in hours are available.

Weekday walk-in hours
Walk-ins are available weekdays during Fall and Spring semesters from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This 10-15 minute meeting with a career intern is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Possible topics to discuss include an overview of Career Services Center, a brief resume critique, or questions about MU Career Manager.

The first appointment
Students will meet with a career counselor to discuss the career issues of their choice. The counselor will likely ask about personal and career background, interests, coursework, and related aspects that effect career decision making to ensure a good understanding of the student’s unique situation.

What to bring
Students are welcome to bring a copy of their resume. We also recommend that they bring something to write with and a pad of paper to take notes.

Who is eligible
All services are offered to current students and alumni. Individual counseling is available by appointment concerning all areas of career development.
