Dear Dot,

I am getting my degree in Exercise Science this Spring and I am thinking that I want to do health and wellness programming in a hospital setting. I'm just not sure where to start in order to get there. I know of some job search sites but what else can I do to construct more of a job search plan?

Dear Emma,

In today's economy it is important that you have a plan when you set out on the job search, always keeping your career goals in mind. If you have confidence in those goals but also the ability to be flexible, you can have a successful job search! Here are some additional suggestions for setting up short-term and long-term goals:

¨These are the things I can do within the next week to take me closer to my goal¨

Ideas:
1) Discuss my plans with those invested in this decision: my family, my advisor,
and my friends.
2) Identify any changes necessary.
3) Create my own Linked-in profile and connect with Laura Kestner and Kristin Finn at the Career Services Center!
4) Network with my extended family over Thanksgiving Break

¨These are the things I can do within the next month to take me closer to my goal"

Ideas:
1) Look at the class bulletin to see which classes fit into my new plan.
2) Join a student organization and take on a role that would give me additional skills in leadership, communication, project planning, etc.
3) Plan some networking activities over Winter Break

¨These are the things I can do within the next six months to take me closer to my goal"

Ideas:
1) Get involved in community service activities related to my career field
2) Create a job search plan

Good luck!

Dot
