Service Learning at Marquette
Service Learning is an academic program that enables students to perform meaningful community service related to their courses. Combining community service with classroom theory enriches students' learning, personal growth and sense of civic responsibility. At the same time, this work builds community and enhances the efforts of the collaborating agencies. For additional information about service learning, visit the service learning FAQs page and the About Service Learning at Marquette page, which includes an introductory video.
Who Counts?
The “Who Counts? Math Across the Curriculum for Global Mission” program seeks to motivate students to be life-long math learners. The “Who Counts?” program will (1) incorporate math assignments in non-STEM core and majors courses, (2) create partnerships with community, government, and business organizations, (3) refine the Core Assessment Instrument to improve documentation mechanisms for math and global-learning outcomes, and (4) institutionalize project outcomes through a yearly student conference and a book distributed to all freshmen entitled, Pathways to a Life that Counts. Faculty may apply for mini-grants to redesign courses to include mathematical reasoning assignments.
