There may be components (e.g., a survey) of your course that you use in virtually the same form each time you teach it. Or, perhaps there is a component that you use in many of your courses. Rather than create these components for each class or each time you teach the same course, D2L gives you the capability of copying components from one course to another. Be sure to read the Important Considerations before proceeding.
Copying components is not a completely clean operation. Some adjustments will be necessary after you have copied the desired component(s). Discussed here are the items that will need your attention before the copied component is ready for use in your course. For a more detailed checklist, refer to Updating Courses after Copying Components.
Content Availability
If you have restricted the availability dates on any of the following, those dates will need to be updated: quizzes, dropbox folders, discussion forms and topics, grades, content items, and news items.
Even though some adjustment will be necessary, copying components from an existing or previous course can save you the time of recreating frequently used course components.
Access the course that you want to copy the component to.
On the Navigation bar, click EDIT COURSE.
The Course Admin Tools window appears.
Click on IMPORT/EXPORT/COPY COMPONENTS.
The Import/Export/Copy Components dialog box appears.
Choose "Copy Components from another Org Unit" and click NEXT.
The Copy Course Components page opens.
You can view the content of a component, by clicking VIEW DETAIL .
In the Copy the selected course components from section, select the unit you
want to copy components from.
Select Existing offering, or Search for offering.
The bottom of the page expands to list the available components.
To copy all components, at the top of the dialog box, select Select All Components.
To copy select components, in the last section of the dialog box, select the desired components
NOTE:
An item is selected if a check mark appears before it.
If you select Content, you should also select Course files.
Click NEXT.
The Select Course Material dialog box appears and you confirm the components to copy.
Click NEXT.
The Copy Course Components window opens. It shows you a summary of the items to copy.
Click DONE.
As a final consideration, please see the Updating Courses after Copying Components page to review all the necessary steps to ensure that your new course information is accurate.
