Working with the Dropbox For Faculty

The Dropbox is used when electronic files are to be submitted as part of the assignment.  It allows the students to turn in their digital assignments and to retrieve the graded files. The instructor is allowed to retrieve the student's files.

Once students have submitted their assignments to the Dropbox, you can open or download them to disk for grading. As with any download, you should take steps to protect your computer from viruses.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DROPBOX.
    The Folder List dialog box appears.

  2. In the Dropbox Folders section, click the folder where the assignments have been placed.
    The Folder Submissions dialog box appears.

  3. Click the link of the file you wish to download.
    The File Download dialog box appears.

  4. To open the file from its location, click OPEN.
    OR
    To save the file:
    1. Click SAVE.
      The Save As dialog box appears.
    2. Navigate to the desired save location.
    3. Click SAVE.
    4. Locate and open the file.

If a dropbox folder was set up to be associated with a grade/assessment item, you have the option to leave grade feedback in addition to assignment feedback.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DROPBOX.
    The Dropbox Folders dialog box appears.

  2. Click the folder where the assignments have been placed.
    The Folder Submissions dialog box appears.

  3. In the Folder Submissions Dropbox dialog box, click on the student you want to address.
    The Compose New Message dialog box appears.

  4. Type your message, click on SEND.

Giving Feedback: In the Student File

If the student file is a Microsoft Office file, you can insert feedback directly into the document at specific points.

  1. Insert a text box within the document and type your feedback.

  2. Save the file in a desired location.

  3. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DROPBOX. 
    The Folder List dialog box appears.

  4. In the Dropbox Folders section, click the folder where the assignments have been placed.
    The Folder Submissions dialog box appears.

  5. In the Folder Listdialog box, for the student you want to address, click LEAVE FEEDBACK.
    The Leave Feedback dialog box appears.

  6. In the Feedback text box, type the page number, or a short message, indicating where you have left the comments.

  7.    In the Attachment text box, type the path of the attachment.
       OR
       To select the file:
    1. Click BROWSE...
      The Choose file dialog box appears.
    2. Using the Look in pull-down list, locate and select the file.
    3. Click OPEN.
      The Leave Feedback dialog box reappears.

  8. When finished, click SUBMIT
    The Foldername Dropbox dialog box appears. The feedback within the student file that you have just submitted can now be viewed in the student's dropbox.

You can add to or change feedback you have given to a student.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DROPBOX.
    The Pickup Files dialog box appears.

  2. In the Dropbox Folders section, click the folder where the assignments have been placed.
    The Foldername Dropbox dialog box appears.

  3. In the Foldername Dropbox dialog box, click FEEDBACK LEFT.
    OR
    Click EDIT FEEDBACK. edit feedback button
    The Leave Feedback dialog box appears.

  4. In the Feedback scroll box, make the desired change to the message.

  5. When finished, click SUBMIT.
    The Foldername Dropbox dialog box appears. The feedback in the student's dropbox will now appear according to the changes made.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DROPBOX.
    The Pickup Files dialog box appears.

  2. In the Dropbox Folders section, click the folder where the assignments have been placed.
    The Foldername Dropbox dialog box appears.

  3. In the Foldername Dropbox dialog box, click FEEDBACK LEFT.
    OR
    Click EDIT FEEDBACK. edit feedback button
    The Leave Feedback dialog box appears.

  4. In the Leave Feedback dialog box, click DELETE.
    The link Feedback Left will turn to Leave Feedback.
    The feedback can no longer be viewed in the student's dropbox.
