Working with the Gradebookfor faculty

The Desire2Learn Gradebook allows instructors to keep an online record of their students' scores on assignments. Assignments and scores can be added, edited, or deleted. You can also import grades from an outside file or export scores to a text editor or Excel.

return to topAdding Grade Items

You can add grade items (assignments or other graded activities) and designate their name, point value, weight, and date.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES.
    The Grades Area window opens.

  2. Click MANAGE GRADES.  The New Item window opens.

  3. Click NEW ITEM.
    Choose a Grade Item Type.
    The New Item dialog box appears.

  4. In the General section, in the Name text box, type a name for the grade item.

  5. OPTIONAL: In the Short Name text box, type an abbreviated name for the grade item.

  6. Using the Category pull-down list, select the appropriate grade item category.

  7. To add a description for the grade item:

    1. Click on SHOW DESCRIPTION. 
    2. In the scroll box, type the desired description
  8. If your grade item type is numeric, in the Grading section, type the total number of points the grade item is worth.

  9. Complete the remainder of the General section as appropriate and click SAVE.

  10.    Click SAVE.
       The grade item is added.

return to topEditing Grade Items

You can edit all the information regarding a grade item except the type. This includes changing the name of a grade item, the weight, and the description.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES.
    The Grades Area window opens.

  2. Click on MANAGE GRADES
    Click on the name of the grade item you want to edit.
    The Grades List window opens.

  3. Select the item you want to change.  The Edit Item dialog opens.

  4. Make the desired changes.

  5.    Click SAVE.
        The grade item is edited.

return to top Deleting Grade Items

You can delete grade items at any time.

WARNING: All grades corresponding to this grade item will be lost.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES.
    The Grades Area window opens.

  2. Click MANAGE GRADES.
    The Grades List window opens.

  3. Click DELETE at the top of the window.
    The Delete dialog box appears.

  4. Select the item you wish to delete.
    NOTE: An item is selected if a checkmark appears next to it.

  5. Click DELETE SELECTED.
    A confirmation dialog box appears.

  6. Click DELETE.
    The grade item is deleted.

Editing grades allows faculty to manually adjust grades.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES.
    The Grades Area window opens.

  2. Click MANAGE GRADES.
    The Grades List window opens.


  3. Click the name of the grade item you want to edit.
    The Edit Item dialog box appears

  4. Make the desired changes.

  5. When finished, click SAVE.
    The grade is edited.
