Working with the Pager for facutly

The Pager is a form of real-time online communication similar to instant messaging. Marquette faculty and students can use the Pager to send messages to each other.

Since users can receive your page only when they are online, it is useful to be able to view which users are currently online.

  1. On the Navigation bar, click OPEN PAGER.Open Pager
    The Pager dialog box appears.


Online users are identified in the Online area of the dialog box.

       OR

From the Course Home page, click CLASSLIST.
Users highlighted with a yellow background are are currently online.

Sending a Page: Classlist Option

  1. From the Course Home page, click CLASSLIST.
    Users highlighted with a yellow background are currently online.

  2. In the Name column, click the name of the person you want to send a page to.
    The Send Page dialog box appears.

  3. In the Message scroll box, type the message you wish to send.

  4. Click SEND.

Sending a Page: Pager Option

  1. On the Navigation bar, click OPEN PAGER. Open Pager
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click the username of the person you wish to page.

    OR
    1.    Click NEW PAGE.
         The Send Page dialog box appears.
    2. In the To text box, type the username.
      HINT: You must type the username as it appears in the Pager dialog box.

  3. In the Message scroll box, type the message.

  4. Click SEND.
    If the contact responds, you can continue conversing with each other by typing messages and clicking SEND.

When someone has sent you a page, the Pager illuminates green and reads Page.Incoming Page

  1. To see whom is contacting you and what their message is, click OPEN PAGER. Open Pager
    The Page dialog box appears.

  2.    If you wish to reply:
    1. Click REPLY.
      The Send Page dialog box appears.
    2. In the Message scroll box, type your message.
    3. Click SEND.

You can add a contact to your contact list to make paging them easier.

Adding a Known Contact

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER.Open Pager
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click ADD.
    The Add a New Contact dialog box appears.

  3. Select Add Classmate.

  4. In the text box, type the username, or pull down to select.

  5. Click ADD.

Adding Classmates

You can select classmates from any of the courses you are currently enrolled in.

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER.Open Pager
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click ADD.
    The Add a New Contact dialog box appears.

  3. Select Add Classmates.

  4. From the Choose a class to select contacts from pull-down list, select a class.
    The classlist from that class appears.

  5. Select the user(s) you wish to add.

  6. Click ADD.

  7. When finished, click CANCEL.

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER. Open Pager
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click REMOVE.
    The Remove Contact dialog box appears.

  3. Select the contact you wish to remove
    NOTE: You can select more than one contact.

  4. Click REMOVE.

  5. When finished, click CLOSE.

You can view the history of your pager communications with a specific user.

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER.Open Pager
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Next to the desired user, click HISTORY.
    The History widget appears.

  3. Once you've viewed the history, click CLOSE.

return to topCustomizing Pager Settings

Desire2Learn allows you to customize the notification settings for the pager. You can select a desired pager sound or turn off the pager notification.

  1. From the My Home page, under My Settings, click MY PREFERENCES.

  2. Select the Pager tab.

  3. To allow visual notification of a page, under Incoming page Icon, select On.
    To prevent visual notification, under Incoming page Icon, select Off.

  4. Under Incoming page Sound , select the desired sound.
    HINT: To hear a preview of a sound, click PLAY.

  5. Click SAVE.
