Creating a Quizfor faculty

Using Desire2Learn to administer quizzes provides for easy distribution and grading. You can create several types of quizzes including: long answer, fill in the blank, matching, and multiple choice quizzes. You can also customize quiz options to allow special access, permit multiple attempts, and create a report.

Creating the quiz is just the first step. This document walks you through the Properties tab of the New Quiz dialog box. Other documents relating to quizzes you may find helpful include:

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click QUIZZES.
    The Manage Quizzes widget appears.
  2. Click NEW QUIZ .
    The Manage Quizzes - New Quiz dialog box appears.

  3. On the Properties tab, in the General section, in the Name text box, type the desired quiz name.

  4. To assign the quiz to an existing category, from the Category pull-down list, select a desired existing category.
    OR
    To create a category,
    1.    Click ADD CATEGORY.
         The Add New Category dialog box appears.
    2.    In the Name text box, type the desired category name.
         EXAMPLE: Unit 1 Quizzes.
    3. Click SAVE.
      NOTE: Categories are used to organize items in the Gradebook.

  5. To link the quiz to an existing grade item, from the Grade Item pull-down menu, make the desired selection.
    OR
    To create a gradebook item:
    1.    Click ADD GRADE ITEM.
          The New Grade Item dialog box appears.
    2.    Complete the dialog box as appropriate.
    3. Click SAVE.
      NOTE: This extends the grading properties of an existing item to those of your quiz.

  6. Select Auto Export to Grade to send the grade automatically to the gradebook.

  7.  To allow students to view their grade immediately after the quiz is completed, select allow attempt to be be set as grade immediately upon completion.
    NOTE:
    This option cannot be used with certain types of quizzes, such as long answer.

  8. To select advanced options, in the Optional Advanced Properties section, click EXPAND OPTIONAL ADVANCED PROPERTIES.


    Your options include:
     
      Hints Hints are displayed along with the questions.
      Notification Email A message is sent to the email address entered here each time a student completes the quiz.
      Disable Right Click The quiz page will not allow the user to right click(Windows) or CTRL-click (Macintosh).
      Disable Pager Access The receive pager messages will not appear while a student is taking a quiz.

  9. To allow students to view a description of the quiz before it is available,
    1.    In the Messages section, under Description, select on.
    2. In the scroll box, type the desired quiz description.
      HINT: To write the description using HTML code, click HTML EDITOR.

  10. To create an introduction message (such as specific instructions) shown when students begin the quiz,

      a.     In the Messages section, under Introduction Message, select on.

      b.     In the scroll box, type the desired quiz description.
             HINT: To write the description using HTML code, click HTML EDITOR.

  11. Click SAVE QUIZ.
