G. Summersell Chair in Southern History at the University of Alabama
and author of books like But There Was No Peace: The Role of Violence
in the Politics of Reconstruction, Civil Wars: Women and the Crisis
of Southern Nationalism, and The Confederate Republic: A Revolution
Against Politics. His talk will be based on his forthcoming book
on experiences of Fredericksburg civilians during the Civil War.
