Mission Statement: Our mission is to prepare physical therapy residents for
advanced specialty practice. The program will cultivate high level neurologic physical therapists who integrate the teacher-scholar model into their clinical practice. Through neurologic clinical experiences under the mentorship of master clinicians, along with didactic learning experiences in neurology including both teaching and research, the program will create advanced physical therapy practitioners who will be able to care for the whole patient embodying the spirit of “cura personalis.”
Program Goals:
- Support the mission of the Department of Physical Therapy by continuing to cultivate students who strive to advance their knowledge and skills as patient care providers.
- Implement curriculum that embraces a commitment to excellence in the evaluation and care of the whole person.
- Provide residents with a curriculum leading to fulfillment of the requirements for specialty certification as outlined in the Description of Specialty Practice for Neurology.

Program Objectives:
- 1-3 qualified PT neurology residents will be recruited and enrolled each year.
- All Marquette neurology residents will sit for board certification exam after one year of full-time residency with 90% first time pass rate on APBPTS exam for Neurologic Clinical Specialists.
- The curriculum will prepare the resident to demonstrate advanced skill in the assessment and treatment of individuals with neurologic dysfunction.
- Residents will apply evidence-based decision making in planning effective, cost efficient plans of care.
Candidates interested in applying for the Neurologic Residency will need to download the application or call the Department of Physical Therapy office at (414)
288-7161 to have one mailed.
Along with the application, candidates will need to include the following required items:
- Resume
- Copies of transcript(s)
- Proof of Wisconsin License or provide a plan to obtain Wisconsin License by the residency start date
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who are able to address candidate’s clinical skills.
Time line for the Application Process:
- Interviews will take place on the second week of December.
- Selections and notifications will be made during the third week of December.
- By Christmas, accepted candidates will need to give notification of acceptance.
Residency will always begin the second week of July the following summer. The residency program is one year in length ending by July 4th.
