Admiral Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mullen was sworn in as the 17th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Oct. 1, 2007. He is the highest-ranking officer in the U.S. Armed Forces and the president's principal military adviser, advising the secretary of defense, the National Security Council and Homeland Security. A native of Los Angeles, Mullen graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School and earned a master's degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School.

ABOUT THE TALK

During his visit to Marquette, Mullen hosted a question-and-answer session, discussing cyber warfare, nuclear war, the U.S. military's presence in Afghanistan, the future of the military and the military's green initiatives.

 

About the series

Mullen visited Marquette on April 5, 2011, as part of his "Conversation with the Country" tour. The chairman met with and addressed the cadets and midshipmen of Marquette's Army, Air Force and Naval ROTC programs.
