In early April 2011, journalist James Foley was apprehended on a Libyan battlefield and found himself in a Tripoli jail. He was set free 45 days later after an international campaign spearheaded by his Marquette friends, former Teach for America colleagues, and family and childhood friends in New Hampshire.
The Lucius W. Nieman Symposium, named after the founder of the Milwaukee Journal, Lucius W. Nieman, is an annual event sponsored by the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication.
Foley talked in detail about his abduction in Libya, including the unfolding of events the day of his capture.
