Selection Process

Award recipients will be selected by individual departments within Student Affairs and Campus Ministry. Over the past three years, the majority of nominations have come from these two areas as our offices are more apt to interact with students in co-curricular settings. We are confident that students who would be nominated from colleagues outside the division would also be identified from within the division as well (and this has indeed been the case in past years). The selection of the Thon Award for Leadership will remain in the hands of a selection committee comprised of staff across Student Affairs and Campus Ministry, but the individual Magis Award recipients will be chosen by individual departments.

Each department selects up to one emerging leader.

Each department selects up to four students from each “functional” area in their departments who will receive Magis awards. Departments can cross check names of potential recipients here.

Once departments have made decisions on recipients, their names should be submitted online. Note: you will need to submit each recipient’s name separately via this form.

Departmental Selections are due Friday, Feb. 23, 2018

Please refer to the Leadership Award Rubric to assist with the selection process.

Student Leadership Awards

Student leadership awards

The Division of Student Affairs presents leadership awards annually to recognize student contributions to the mission and activities of the various student affairs areas. Students are nominated by staff from the division and throughout the university and are selected by a committee representing each of the student affairs departments and Campus Ministry. Awards are presented at a program held each year in April. Read more about the student leadership awards.
