College of Education Celebrates 2015 Alumni Award Winners

The following alumni will be honored at the College of Education Awards Conferral and Reception on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the Henke Lounge and Lunda Room at the Alumni Memorial Union. The event is part of the university-wide Alumni National Awards Weekend, a celebration honoring alumni from every college who represent the heart, soul, and spirit of Marquette.

Distinguished Alumna of the Year

Kathleen A. CepelkaDR. KATHLEEN A. CEPELKA, GRAD '92
Whitefish Bay, Wis.

Even as a child, Kathleen felt drawn to teaching, going as far as organizing summer “reading groups” for her neighborhood friends. From these promising beginnings, she has gone on to have a career of more than 45 remarkable years in Catholic education. 

Educational Policy and Leadership Achievement Award

Dr. Mark D. McCarthyDR. MARK D. MCCARTHY, GRAD '93
Shaker Heights, Ohio 

In fulfilling his definition of success, which involves using his God-given talents to be of service to others, Mark has had the opportunity to help bring out the best in thousands of young people.

Counseling Psychology Achievement Award

Phyllis A. LardinoisPHYLLIS A. LARDINOIS, GRAD '84
Brookfield, Wis. 

Although it’s common to think of therapists helping people muddle through struggles such as traumas, depression or grief, Phyllis describes her work as a licensed marriage and family therapist in uplifting terms.

Young Alumnus of the Year Award

Just eight years after receiving his undergraduate degree from Marquette, José, "Tony," is playing a leadership role at one of the most respected and effective local schools serving lower-income students, Milwaukee College Prep.
