COED Graduate Student Honored by Local Non-profit

Released: 12/3/09

Aileen Aragones, COED graduate student, was recently named Idealistic Leader of the Year in 2009 by Admission Possible, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping promising, low-income young people prepare for and earn admission to college.

During her one-year tenure with Admission Possible of Greater Milwaukee, Aragones served as both events coordinator and college coach for high school juniors at St. Joan Antida High School in Milwaukee. She coordinated several service events, practice ACTs, and campus visits. She also mentored low-income juniors through a year-long college preparatory curriculum. For-profit test preparation companies typically advertise average increases of 12-14 percent on the ACT test. Admission Possible reports that Aileen's students increased their ACT scores by an average of 17 percent.

Aileen graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s in history. She is currently pursuing her master of arts in educational policy and foundations at Marquette University.
