Coreen Bukowski, Assistant to the COEP Chair and the Family Literacy Project, is among the recipients of the 2009 Marquette University Excellence in Service Awards. She and three others will be honored at an awards program on Thursday, April 30, from 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in AMU, Monaghan Ballroom.

By definition, “The Excellence in University Service Award Program recognizes individuals for their contributions to the essential work of Marquette at the highest level of excellence.” At the heart of the university’s “essential work,” of course, are its students. The personification of that essential, student-focused work is this year’s group of Excellence in University Service Award recipients.

Coreen has worked at Marquette for over twenty years, serving in a variety of capacities across campus. Her tenure in the College of Education began in 1993, and has included service to the Hartman Literacy and Learning Center and, more recently, to the department of Counseling and Educational Psychology.

In her work in the College of Education, Bukowski facilitates the operations of both the department and the literacy project, serving

undergraduate and graduate students, as well as prospective students.

“I see the lengths she takes to serve our students, staff and faculty, and I am greatly appreciative that she works with us,” said one nominator. “When I watch her interact with our students, I can see that she honestly cares about their well-being.”

“In my job I work with a diverse group of people and perform a variety of duties,” said Bukowski. “What I enjoy mostly is working with the people, both within and outside the Marquette community.”

When asked, Dr. Bill Henk had this to say of Coreen's work," To my mind, Coreen Bukowski is the living embodiment of St. Ignatius’s concept of the magis. Her fundamental comportment toward her position is consummately professional, and she is always willing to go that proverbial extra mile."
