Education Alumna, Elisabeth Foro, to Receive Award from MPS Board of Directors

Released: 2/26/15

College of Education alumna, Elisabeth Foro, GRAD '06, will be awarded an “Excellence in Education Award” from The Milwaukee Board of School Directors at this evening's school board meeting.

Elisabeth Foro is one of thirty-six teachers in the country that has been chosen to receive the Engineering in Elementary (EiE) Scholarship by Raytheon Company. As part of this prestigious award, each teacher received $2,500 towards implementing the innovative EiE curriculum developed by the Museum of Science, Boston. EiE was designed by the Museum's National Center for Technological Literacy (NCTL) to help elementary school educators and students better understand engineering and technology concepts. Research shows EiE helps elementary students become more interested in engineering as a career.

Foro, who works as an academic coach at Cass Street Elementary School, supports teachers as they implement the Common Core State Standards in their classrooms. She also provides professional development for teachers to help them gain a deeper understanding of the math and ELA standards, and help them integrate instruction with the content areas in an effective and engaging way.

The Milwaukee Board of School Directors recognizes and honors Elisabeth Foro for her dedication, outstanding leadership, and commitment to excellence on behalf of the students of the Milwaukee Public Schools.

Foro received her Master of Arts degree and reading licensure from Marquette University in 2006.
