Drs. Henk, Maney, and Diez Present on GMCEC at USDOE

Released: 9/28/09

At the invitation of the US Department of Education, three members of the Greater Milwaukee Catholic Education Consortium (GMCEC) shared information about this unique institutional partnership at the Fifth Annual Private School Leadership Conference. The GMCEC’s Institutional Coordinator, Dr. Jennifer Maney, along with one of its Co-Chairs, Dr. Mary Diez of Alverno College, and Dean Bill Henk, a co-founder, served as a panel of presenters at the Office’s headquarters in Washington, D. C. on September 23. The panel described the GMCEC’s history as well as its membership, mission, operations, and list of accomplishments to a very receptive and appreciative audience. As the only higher education collaboration that serves a major urban Archdiocese, the GMCEC has been touted as a possible national model.

The GMCEC embodies a partnership between Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University, Marian University, Marquette University, and Mount Mary College. Its purpose is to leverage the collective academic and administrative resources of the five institutions to provide coordinated services to assist Catholic schools. Services include training, consultation, facilitation, communication, data support, and resource identification and acquisition – all of which center on the themes of professional development, faith identity and formation, and organizational effectiveness.
