College of Education Ranked in Top 100 Graduate Education Programs by U.S. News & World Report

The Marquette University College of Education achieved a rank of 91 among 278 graduate programs in education surveyed by U.S. News & World Report (USN&WR) in fall 2008 and early 2009. This ranking places the college in the top third of institutions granting doctoral degrees.
The rankings were based on a weighted average of 11 quality measures distributed across four major categories:

Quality: Measures include reputational ratings by higher education peers and school superintendents (.40 weighting)

Student Selectivity: Measures include mean GRE scores and overall program acceptance rate. (.18)

Faculty Resources: Measures include student-faculty ratio, percent of faculty with awards and selected editorships, and doctoral degrees granted by unit. (.12)

Research Activity: Measures include total research expenditures, average expenditures per faculty member, and overall rank. (.30)
Commenting on the rankings, Dean Bill Henk noted, “We’re pleased that U.S. News, and our peers at institutions around the country, recognize both the academic quality and excellence of our programs, delivered in a close-knit community of students and faculty. If students’ perceptions of instruction, published research, and the impact of community outreach could also somehow be captured, our ranking would be even higher.”
